Christmas 🎄Traditions: the other Washington Christmas Tree is the Capitol Christmas Tree which has been an American tradition since 1964. Each year it is lit by the Speaker of the House & in 2012 the tree will be from the White River National Forest in Colorado. The first Capitol Tree was a live 24-foot Douglas fir tree planted on the west lawn. The tree died in 1968 after a severe wind storm and root damage, & the U.S Department of Agriculture Forest Service has provided the trees ever since.
